Albania joining Nato Membership
Monday , 27 October 2008 - In a few weeks, the Council of Ministers will approve ‘ratification of the agreement for entry into NATO in Albania: it has assured the foreign minister, European Commission Vice-President Franco Frattini, after meeting in Tirana with his Albanian Luzlim Basha. “Up to now – underlined Frattini – Albania and ‘was a consumer of security. Now needs to become a producer of security.” The Minister stressed that the Atlantic Alliance will ask ‘to Tirana to “stability operations’ in the region, producing security in the area between the Black Sea and the Adriatic.” Frattini said the “important Albanian contribution to the ISAF force in Afghanistan” as a demonstration of change that has affected the country over the past ten years. In Tirana the Minister has scheduled the signing of four initiatives to support the economic development of Albania. Frattini will sign ‘an agreement for recognition of driving licenses between the two countries. After the interview with Basha, Frattini will be ‘received by Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha, President of the Republic of Albania, Bamir Topi and the speaker of parliament Jozefina Topalli. The minister participate ‘also at the opening of the Annual Conference of Ambassadors Albanians, during which make’ a speech on “Italy and the south-east Europe together towards integration into the European Union.”
The United States President George W. Bush signed NATO agreement procedures for Croatia and Albania and communicated hope for Macedonia to soon bond the Alliance.
- Albania and Croatia’s entry into NATO is a significant footstep for the Balkans.
